February 28, 2020 Fourth Grade Newsletter Hope everyone had a great week. It has been a busy week for the fourth grade. We went to Luther Manor to deliver very late Valentine's cards and visit with the residents who always look forward to the student's smiling faces. Just a reminder to start sending in items for our class basket for Basket Bingo. The theme for our class is Sweet and Salty Snacks. Money and gift cards may also be sent for the basket as well. Basket Bingo will be March 28. Plans for next week: Religion: Jonathon Warns David. Memory on Tuesday and Thursday. Spelling: SPARKLE and pre-test on Monday. Final test on Friday. Focus will be on -in, -on, and -en. English: Adjectives that compare. Reading: Read Leah's Pony. Problems and solutions. Weekly assessment on Friday. February 21, 2020 Fourth Grade Newsletter
Greeting parents. Maybe next week we will have a full week of school. Let's hope so! We would like to thank Dr. Klemm for his most interesting visit concerning our body and the importance of the correct care we need to take with our bodies. The students were in awe looking at and holding a model of the spine and viewing pictures of x-rays. On Friday, February 28, the third and fourth grades will be going to Luther Manor. We will leave at 9:45 and return at approximately 10:15. We will take two teacher cars and a school van. Next weeks subject plans are as follows: Religion: New memory verses begin on Tuesday. Study guide goes home on Monday and test on Thursday. Spelling: SPARKLE and pre-test on Monday. Vowel syllables will be the main focus for the week. Final spelling test on Friday. English: We will learn about articles this week. Reading: Read Adelina's Whales. Will complete lessons on vocabulary, consonant and le syllables, and sequencing. Weekly assessment will be given on Friday. Math: Remaining fractions and two step equations, multiplying 3 or more factors and exponents, polygons, and dividing with 2 digit answers. Science: Your body covering. Social Studies: Pony Express. Fourth Grade Newsletter Dear parents, I can't believe the first week of February is gone. This school year is flying by so fast. On Friday, February 14, the fourth and third grade classes will go to Luther Manor from 9:00-10:00 to visit and deliver cards to the residents. It brings a smile to their face whenever they see our students. We will take teacher cars and a van. If we need extra drivers, we will let you know. We will also have a fourth grade Valentine's Day party. Students may brings decorated boxes. We will also make file folder card holders that they will decorate in case they choose not to bring a box. However, all students will make the file folder card holders. Student name for the Valentine cards are: Zach, Hauns, Josie, Matthew, Aidyn, Millie, Elaina, Lauren, Pyper, Alex, Corey, Abigail, Emmett
Class Basket Bingo information--- Our class will sponsor a basket for Basket Bingo . Our class theme will be Sweet and Salty Treats. Please feel free to bring items that we can put into our basket for Basket Bingo. The basket will be prepared by our PTL.

Dear parents, The students did a great job studying for their final states and capitals test. Thank you parents for helping them practice and quizzing them. Some have completed the math times testing and others are getting close. Please continue to urge your child to study for these remaining tests.

We have had a great week in fourth grade. We studied about and did a science experiment on celery tubes. We used variations such as stalks with and without leaves and different colors of water. We observed them daily and had great classroom conversations about the similarities and differences between each stalk of celery. I will be gone next Thursday and Friday. Dear Parents, Another week has come and gone. It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is almost here. Congratulations to Hauns Nunemacher for having the egg covered in bubble wrap that survived the drop from the third floor to the second floor in the hallway of our school. Other eggs were covered in small blankets and newspapers but were not as lucky as the bubble wrapped egg. This newsletter will cover next week as well as the two day week of Thanksgiving. Religion: Test on Monday over unit 2. The rest of the week and week after will cover Israel's Long Journey and Our Promised Land. English: Linking verbs and irregular verbs. Spelling: SPARKLE and pre-test on Monday. Plurals and compound words will be this and next week's focus. Dear parents, We made it through another week. We are half way through the first quarter. This year is already flying by. Students will receive their mid quarter grades on Friday, September 20. If your child wishes to order books from the Scholastic book order, they have been given our classroom code to use when ordering. Next week's agenda is as follows: Spelling- SPARKLE and pre-test on Monday. Words this week will concentrate on the long O. English- Run-on sentences and how to correct them will be the focus in English this week. Reading- Continue reading Because of Winn Dixie. Sequencing, connotation/denotation, and prefixes. Dear fourth grade parents, I am so excited for this new year in fourth grade. We are off to a great start. Happy Friday! On Wednesday, May 15, 2019, fourth grade will be taking a field trip to the Kibbler farm from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Students will be taking a hay ride, petting animals, riding horses, and learning about life on the farm. Fourth grade will also attend the Safety Ag Day on Thursday, May 16 from 8:45 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
This is what we will be doing next week in class.
Spelling: We will review words from this year and have a class spelling bee.
Religion: We will read about Peter and John healing the lame man and Philip and the Ethiopian.
English: Students will be writing a personal narrative and we will be reviewing concepts from this past year.
Reading: Students will have their Charlotte's Web test on Tuesday, May 14. We reviewed their study guide today in class. We will also discuss prefixes, author's purpose, illustrations, and alliteration and figurative speech.
Math: We will learn about geometric solids, constructing prisms and pyramids, and probability.

Happy Friday! Next week in class, we will be reviewing and preparing for the Iowa tests, which will be the week of April 22. Please make sure your child has plenty of #2 pencils that week. Ticonderoga tend to work the best for testing. Please do not send mechanical pencils. During testing, snacks and drinks will be provided for students. On Friday, April 26, third and fourth grade will be participating in the Arbor Day events at Central Park. We will walk to Central Park and participate in the Arbor Day activities at 1:30 p.m.

Lutheran School Week is March 17-22. K-8 will be singing in church on March 17 at 10:00 a.m. A list of events will be sent home in the upcoming weeks.
Basket Bingo will be held on Saturday, March 23. Each class has been asked to donate a basket. Fourth grade will be doing a "Pampered Pet" basket. If you would like to help with the fourth grade basket, you can send a $5 donation or an item to be placed in the basket.

Happy Friday! On Thursday, February 14, fourth grade will have their Valentine's Day party from 1-2 p.m. If your child would like to bring a box for their valentine's, they can make a box at home and bring it to school on that day. I will send home a list of names for both third and fourth grade.
On Sunday, February 17, Immanuel Lutheran Church in West Ely, will host a taco bar and game day. The event will begin around noon and is a free will offering. All proceeds go to St. John's School.
Six Flags reading logs are due by February 25th.

Dear parents, Happy Friday! Fourth grade is doing a great job on their states and capitals. I enjoy seeing them so excited about learning. Dear parents, Happy Friday! It's hard to believe it's already November. St. John's will have their Scholastic Book Fair November 6-8. This is the schedule for book fair dress up days: Monday - Sleeping Beauty Day - wear pajamas; Tuesday - Little Red Riding Hood Day - wear red; Wednesday - Rapunzel Day - crazy hair; Thursday - Cinderella Day - fancy shoes; Friday - Snow White Day - dress as your favorite dwarf.
This is what we will be doing next week in class:
Spelling - They will have their pretest on Monday, November 5. Their spelling tests will be over silent letters.
English - We will discuss verb tenses and subject-verb agreement.
Reading - We will discuss drawing conclusions, line graphs, and directions. We will also finish Because of Winn-Dixie. They will take their weekly assessment on Friday. Students received their book report for second quarter. Their book report is over a realistic fiction book. Their book report is due Friday, December 21.
Religion - We will discuss the Songs of Miriam and Moses, God's promise to the Israelites, and God appears on Mt. Sinai. Students also received their memory for next week.
Math - We completed our last lesson today. Students will receiver their study guide on Monday, we will review on Tuesday, and their test will be Wednesday, November 7. Students are doing a great job on their multiplication time tests. Thank you for helping your child study.
Science - We will discuss technology and science and how does technology affect you. Students will get their study guide Friday, November 9.
Social Studies - We will be reviewing for their test on Thursday, November 8.

Dear parents, Happy Friday! It's been a busy week in fourth grade. We finished unit 1 in science and our government chapter in social studies. As the weather begins to change, please have your child bring a coat or sweatshirt to school. Parent/Teacher Conferences will be the week of October 22. I will be sending home a letter next week with dates and times to set up times for conferences.
This is what we will be doing next week in class.
Spelling - Pre-test on Monday, October 8. Their words will be with three-letter blends.
English - We will discuss irregular plural nouns.
Reading - We will discuss main idea and details, parts of a book, and idioms. We will continue to read Because of Winn-Dixie. Their weekly assessment will be Friday, October 12.
Religion - Students received a study guide this week for their test on Monday. We will begin Unit 2 next week. There will be no memory for Tuesday, October 9. They wrote their memory for Thursday, October 11, today.
Math - They will get their study guide on Monday and their test is Wednesday, October 10. We will also discuss fractions and multiplication next week. Fourth grade will begin multiplication time tests on Monday, October 22. We have been reviewing in class. Please help your child review at home.
Science - We will be reviewing next week for their test on Monday, October 15.
Social Studies - Students were given their study guides this week. They will have their test on Thursday, October 11. They received a copy of the Preamble to recite for extra credit. This is due by Friday, October 12.

Dear parents, Happy Friday! Today marks the halfway point of first quarter. I can't believe how fast these first few weeks have gone. Your child will receive their mid-quarter grades on Monday. English - We will discuss run-on sentences and how to correct run-on sentences. Reading - We will continue reading Because of Winn Dixie. We will also discuss sequencing, connotation/denotation, and prefixes. They will have their weekly assessment on Friday, September 21. Math - Students will take their math test on Monday, September 17. We reviewed their study guide today in class. Next week we will also discuss expanded form, missing numbers in subtraction, adding columns with regrouping, temperature, and elapsed time. Please help your child start reviewing their multiplication facts. We will begin multiplication time tests in October. I will sent more information home in the next couple weeks. Dear parents, Happy Friday! We've successfully completed our first full week of the new school year. As a reminder, please sign your child's planner each night. This lets me know that your child is showing you their planner and any homework they may have that night. Please continue to sell cookie dough for our school fundraiser. Thanks in advance for all your help. This is what we will be doing next week in class: Spelling - We will be discussing words with the long a sound. They will have a pre-test on Monday, August 27 and spelling dictation on Friday, August 31. Students who miss any words on their pre-test, will write each word they miss five times. These are due by Thursday each week. On Friday's, students will only need to write the spelling words they missed, but they must turn in their test from Monday as well. If they do not turn in their pre-test, they will write all spelling words for the week. English - We will discuss subjects and predicates of sentences. Religion - We will discuss Cain and Abel and our sin leads to another. They will get their memory of Friday, August 31. They will be tested on Tuesday, September 4 and Thursday, September 6. Reading - We will read The Adventures of Ali Baba discuss character, plot, and setting. They will have their weekly assessment on Friday, August 31. Math - We will be reviewing subtraction, writing numbers through 999, adding money, adding with regrouping, and discussing even and odd numbers. Social Studies - We started our Passport Unit this week and made our first stop in Africa. Next week we will travel to Antarctica and Australia. Next week, students will select their country for their country poster project. More information will come home next week. Your child received information about this fundraiser and an order form. Thank you in advance for helping raise money for St. John's. Students received their user names and passwords for Spelling City this week. This is a great resource to help your child study their spelling words each week. If you have not completed and returned the paper work from Meet the Teacher Night, please complete these forms and return to school as soon as possible. This what we will be doing next week in class.
