Happy Friday!!

 

We have had a great three days this week. We began our Christmas program practice and got caught up from the snow days.

 

I want to brag on our awesome 2nd graders. The last spelling test we took, before Thanksgiving break, was the best overall that we have had all school year. I am so proud of how hard they are all working and the progress I am seeing. Thanks for your support at home. 

 

 

Looking to next week:

 

Spelling words are: know, knew, knock, knife, knot, write, wrote, wreck, wrap, wrong, and wrinkle.

 

During the Christmas program the students will be reciting The Apostles' Creed. That will be our memory work for next week. A copy can be found in your student's folder. Next week will be our last week for memory work until after Christmas.

 

In math, in addition to our usual fact practice, we will focus on adding dimes and pennies and measuring oblique, horizontal, and vertical line segments.

 

During Science time, we will be discussing plant life cycles and during Social Studies we will discuss urban and rural communities.

December 13th- Christmas program

December 20th- Christmas party

December 21st- (half day) we will travel to Luther Manor. We will need volunteer drivers. If you are available please let me know.

Happy Friday!!

We spent time discussing the importance of Veteran's Day this week. Next week, we will be including several Thanksgiving activities in our daily work. We will continue Jesus, the Son of God. We will be reading from John and Mark.

It is November!!

 

We have had a great week!

 

2nd grade received Pen Pal letters. We are working on responding to our Pen Pals while working through the writing process.

 

New spelling words are: boy, enjoy, joined, points, shout, ground, around, crowd, flower, snow, below, yellow

 

This week we discussed The birth of John during religion.

 

In math, we are focusing on fact families.

 

In Social Studies, we are discussing the Pilgrims.

 

During Science, we have been comparing plants and animals and what they need to survive.

 

Next week is Book Fair!!

Please remember that there is no school tomorrow, 10/26/2018.

 

K-2 will be singing at church on Sunday, 10/28/2018. Please have your student in the basement by 9:45 am.

 

I enjoyed conferencing with all of you this week. We have a great group of 2nd graders.

Another awesome week in 2nd Grade!!

 

During Language Arts, we have been working on adding endings to words. We continue on with our weekly spelling words. We have been completing daily spelling activities for extra practice.

 

During Religion, we are discussing Solomon's Prayer and how Solomon Builds a Temple.

 

During Math, we have been working with Pennies, Dimes, and Nickels and fact families.

 

During Social Studies, we have been discussing weather and climate.

 

We have begun our Science Fair Project for the Spring. We are observing a pumpkin in its process from pumpkin to puddle.

It is Friday!!

 

Another awesome week in 2nd Grade!!

 

Spelling words for next week are: handle, ring, want, look, come, any, middle, strong, some, very, new, good (test Friday)

 

During math, we are working on graphing, and fractions. We will also continue to review our addition and subtraction math facts and our shapes.

 

In Science, we have been incorporating the fall season into our lessons. This week, we chose a leaf during a nature walk and wrote about them. We are discussing what causes leaves to change color.

 

In Religion, we finished the Ten Commandments. Next week, we will begin discussing The Golden Calf. We will be reading from the book of Exodus.

 

During Social Studies, we are practicing reading a map and discussing Community Government Jobs and State Government Jobs.

 

September 23rd will be our school open house after the church service.

 

September 28th cookie dough will be delivered to the school.

It's September!!

 

Today, we had our first spelling test. I will send them home on Monday to be signed and returned. New spelling words can be found in your student's folder and on the parent portal.

 

Next week, we will be reading from the book of Exodus and studying the Ten Commandments.

 

During math time, we have been working on missing numbers on the hundred number chart and we are beginning fractions.

 

The Superkids parent portal has been updated. You should now be able to access Unit 1 activities.

 

We are finishing our science tools unit.

 

Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 23rd. St. John's Lutheran School will be hosting an open house after church. Come check out all of the updates and improvements.

Another awesome week in 2nd Grade!!

 

We will begin spelling words when we return on Tuesday. Our first set of words are: me, my, she, her, he, his, we, our, they, their, you, your. You will also find these words on a backpack page, in your student's folder, that may be kept at home for practice. Our first test will be Friday, September 7th.

 

During religion time, we will continue with Tuesday, Thursday memory and begin our unit on The Promised Land.

 

Our read aloud series for the school year is the Gooney Bird Greene series.

 

This past week we had our first math assessment. I will be sending them home for you to sign and return.

We have had a wonderful first full week of school!!

 

Today, in your student's folder, you will find memory for the next month. We will begin saying memory on Tuesday as part of our religion time.

 

We will continue on with our two week review of Superkids and will begin spelling words after Labor Day. If you signed up for the Superkids parent portal, you should have received an email with log in information.

August 17th, 2018, Welcome Back!!

Welcome back to St. John's Lutheran School. We are going to have a wonderful year in 2nd Grade.

 

Some highlights of the year will be:

We have a new reading series called Superkids. It is the cream of the crop as far as reading programs go and I can't wait to begin implementing it in the classroom.

We will begin cursive.

Our memory work (which will be recited on Tuesdays and Thursdays) will begin on August 28th with a passage from Genesis.

We will continue with Saxon Math so, be looking for those math papers to come home in folders.

I use Scholastic News in the classroom. With that we also have access to Scholastic's new publications Science Spin and Story Time Spin.

We will also be Pen Pals with a 2nd Grade classroom in Illinois. We work through the steps of the writing process while constructing our Pen Pal letters.

 

We are going to have a wonderful year. Families are always welcome to attend chapel on Wednesday mornings at 8:00 am in the school gym. Also, if you do not have a church home St. Johns would welcome you. Please see the school/church website for service information and weekly activities.
