Letter From the Principal
Dear Families,
This Thursday, May 12th our 8th graders will graduate. Please pray for these students as they embark on new experiences and encounter new friends. Mr. Frank Espinoza, Principal of St. Xavier High School, gave my son, Westray, who was often a "handful" and quite challenging, great advise that has stuck with him.  He told him "you are 50% of who you hang out with." This one simple piece of advice stays in the forefront of his mind. Many of these students will be leaving a group of friends and the only school they have ever attended.

Congratulations to 2016-17 Student Service Council Officers

This year's student service council elections were a close race.  We had many students run for each position.  Candidates had to complete an application, teacher recommendation, and give a speech to all 5th-7th grade.  Congratulations to the following students who were elected as officers for next year!

Kindergarten Learns About Horses

News Items/IMG_1271.JPG

Last week as we were all preparing for the Kentucky Derby, Kindergarten got to learn all about horses! Our week started off by students guessing what we would be learning about after seeing various pictures on the SmartBoard of horse related items. Students saw a picture of a stable, a horseshoe, Churchill Downs, jockeys, and then of course, a horse. We then made a three column KWL chart of things that we already knew about horses, what we wanted to know about horses, and then added to the final column showing what we learned about horses throughout the week. We worked together to label the parts of a horse and learned interesting facts about the Kentucky Derby. We were very thankful that Mrs. Barr brought in a saddle and crop to share with us, and Mrs. Norrenbrock came in to talk with the Kindergarten classes about caring for a horse and shared many items used to take care of their pet horse, Hershey. As our week came to a close and we had all learned something new about horses, we decided what better way to end the week than have a horse come to school! Last Thursday the Kindergarten students were surprised with a pony out front of school that they were all able to pet and ask questions about. This also allowed a time for review and students were able to share what they had learned throughout the week about horses. Special thanks to Becca Eisenback for organizing our special visitor Appy the pony and her owner Debbie from Deb’s Pony Parties

♦ Looking for New Auction Chairperson(s)

The Taste of St. Michael Auction is one of the largest parish community fundraisers--most recently generating more than $81k for St. Michael Church and School. Typically held the Saturday before Ash Wednesday, the Auction is made possible by a dedicated group of parish volunteers who oversee procurement, decorations, ticketing, food/beverages, entertainment and event promotion. For 2017, we are looking for new faces who would be willing to take over this event as the chair, or as it has been done in past years, as a multi-chair committee. Past years' chairs will assist with passing along information from previous auctions and helping to make an easy transition for you to head up the event. If you are interested, contact Shannon Montano (slowerymontano@yahoo.com502-648-3686) or Lisa Wilhelmus (lisaries@hotmail.com513-310-2774) for more information.
