Envirothon Team 2018
Five students from El Dorado Christian School participated in the Missouri Envirothon Southwest Regional competition on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. The ECHS team and sponsor, Science teacher, Mrs. Janet Swank, left before 6 a.m. traveling to the Missouri Department of Conservation Nature Center in Springfield, Missouri, which hosted the event. This was the second year that El Dorado Christian School participated. The students were required to prepare and present an oral presentation in addition to studying. “The Missouri Envirothon Program consists of 7 regions across the state with each regional holding a competition either in the fall or early spring. The top three teams from each of these regional competitions advance to the state competition, the Missouri Envirothon. The state competition is held in the central part of the state in late April or early May.
Envirothon teams consist of 5 students from grades 9-12. They compete at outdoor stations testing on aquatic ecology, soils/land use, forestry, wildlife, and a current environmental issue. There is also an oral component with the students presenting their solution to the problem they were given concerning the current issue topic for the year.” This quote and additional information can be found at, www.moenvirothon.org/envirothoninfo.htm.
